Check and Change the Filter
The HVAC air filter removes dust, dirt, pollen, allergens, and other debris from the air before circulating it back into your house. Eventually, everything the filter catches clogs it up, making it difficult for your HVAC to take air in. Make a note on your calendar to check the filter in your hvac air filter housing each month. If it’s dirty, change it.
Clean the Coils
The coils of your HVAC are essential for cooling air when you have the air conditioning turned on. Over time, they can become dusty and dirty. When this happens, the unit has to work harder, which puts a strain on the system and increases your energy bills. You can clean the coils with compressed air, a brush, or a mixture of mild detergent and water.
Remove Debris from the Outside Unit
If you have an outdoor unit, you need to keep it clear of debris. Leaves, sticks, and other objects can get inside and damage fan blades. Pollen, dust, and other debris can clog up the system, forcing it to work harder. Regularly inspect the outdoor unit and remove any debris that you see. Trim back brush or tree limbs that are too close. You can also clean the unit with a hose if necessary.
